Is there a business case for sinking resources into maintaining the Linux version on a regular basis? We’re now finding that there’s so much to do that working on the Windows version of the ClearCanvas Workstation is taking up all of our time already. The possible approaches are to (1) sync up the Linux distribution every month or so, which would take up resources regularly that could otherwise be devoted to working on the Windows version, or (2) wait until there’s actual real demand for a Linux version to sink in resources to do a port.

I’d like to ask the community, then, would you have a use for a Linux version of ClearCanvas Workstation? How would you use it? Please comment here, or post in the forums.

Thanks.

Re: Linux or not?

I would definitely be interested in a Linux and Mac OS version. I think one of the best features of open-source software is cross-platform compatibility. We're (http://irc.cchmc.org) evaluating new software for a PACS/DICOM server as well as a Workstation client and our diverse environment would greatly benefit from a cross-platform solution.

Re: Linux or not?

Thanks for the post...I didn't think anyone read stuff this far back. :) Anyway, I'll be honest with you. We'd love to see a Linux or Mac version, but at the moment all our efforts are focussed on Windows, and will likely be for some time to come. Part of that is because we use .NET 3.0, whereas Mono (the open source Linux implementation of .NET) is only at 2.0. Once Mono catches up though, our hope has always been that some enterprising developer would try to make it work on Linux/Mac.

Re: Linux or not?

Please keep everyone informed if and when the Linux version comes out. I'm tired of dealing with all the security holes of MS's OS's.

Re: Linux or not?

Badly need the Linux version as I am (and lots of people in Russia) Linux user and there's no good DICOM viewers for linux yet.

Re: Linux or not?

Ouch, what a letdown -- I signed up just to download and try this out, but we don't use Windows in our lab.

Re: Linux or not?

This is a very old post, but I am looking to move to Linux now too. With Microsoft's new VDI licensing, it’s getting to expensive to stay true to my Windows roots. I am looking at switching our 40 user clinic over to ubuntu.
