If you’re a developer and are interested in the latest source code and installer, we are now making available our daily build of the Trunk. Go to the Downloads page to get it. Make sure you uninstall any existing installation of ClearCanvas before your run the daily build installer. Note that the daily build should be considered unstable and untested. If you want a stable build, download 0.95 instead.

A few notes about this release:

We wanted to incorporate C-Store SCU, but because we wanted to do it correctly, we decided to give ourselves a little more time and deferred it until the next version.

The Linux/Mono version doesn’t build right now, but we’re working on it. We’ll even be putting out an RPM package in the coming weeks.

This is an interim release in our run up to 1.0, so be prepared for changes. This is especially true if you’re a plugin writer, as we’ll be refactoring the framework some more so that it’s as extensible and flexible as possible.

We’re just in the final stages of testing 0.95 right now and should be ready to go by early next week.  Be sure to come back then to give 0.95 a try!

Over the past few months, we’ve been making a lot of changes to CC Workstation.  We’ll be sharing these changes with you all in our upcoming release.  Some feature highlights in v0.95:

A redesigned Explorer panel (formerly the “Dashboard”)

C-STORE SCU

Text overlay

Dockable workspace tabs

Context menu support

Much improved stability

These are some of the new visible features.  Equally important are the significant changes that have been made under the hood, including:

Usage of a lightweight, open source database known as SQLite

Just a word of thanks to all of you who came by our booth at SCAR the past three days. We’re grateful for the opportunities we’ve had to talk with you about what we’re doing with open source in healthcare informatics. With the release of the source code and documentation for Workstation 0.9, we hope that we can begin building a community of users, developers and testers. We’re well aware that its usability, stability, performance and feature set must be improved before it’s viable in a clinical context. And we want you to be a part of that. We want to hear about what’s good, what’s okay, and what’s downright bad. We want developers to experiment by writing plugins, testers to find bugs and users to test for usability. We want you to feel the same sense of ownership as we do. We invite you to join us in building an industrial-strength PACS viewer that can be extended on your terms and is freely accessible to all!

If you’re planning on attending SCAR 2006 in Austin this week, be sure to come by Booth 443. We’ll be handing out free CDs of ClearCanvas Workstation 0.9, complete with source code and plugin development guide. We’ll also be demonstrating a Linux version (yes, Linux!) of Workstation as well. By exhibiting at SCAR, we hope to start building an open source community that will move CC Workstation towards being a full-featured, high quality, easy-to-use PACS viewer, that also happens to be free and thus accessible to all.
